Sunday Podcast 178 with Michael W Smith 041226
Summary
This sermon focuses on Romans 5:1-9, exploring the progression from justification through faith to experiencing God’s love. Bro Mike emphasizes that believers are declared “not guilty” by God regardless of their past sins, and that trials and tribulations serve a divine purpose in developing Christian character. The message highlights how pressure and difficulties work to accomplish endurance, which leads to experience (trustworthiness), which then produces hope. He uses Abraham’s test with Isaac as an example of how God needs to see our faithfulness experientially, not just know it omnisciently, to determine our spiritual gifts and destiny.
The sermon challenges believers to embrace their trials as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles to overcome. He argues that God is not angry with believers and that the Holy Spirit has shed God’s unconditional love in their hearts. He emphasizes that spiritual growth requires facing increasingly difficult challenges, comparing it to athletic training where one must face tougher competition to improve. The ultimate message is that believers are called to move beyond mediocre Christianity to fulfill their destiny, especially as the end times approach.
Intro Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, knowing that You have declared us not guilty through faith in Jesus Christ. As we gather together today, we ask that You would open our hearts and minds to receive what You want to teach us through Your Word. Help us to be receptive to Your Spirit’s leading and to see our trials and challenges through Your eyes. Give us the courage to embrace the lessons You have for us, even when they’re difficult to understand. We pray that this time together would draw us closer to You and to one another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
