This sermon addresses the universal human experience of disappointment and its particularly dangerous spiritual implications when directed toward God. Bro Mike explains how the disciples experienced profound disappointment when Jesus didn’t fulfill their expectations of an earthly Messiah who would liberate Israel from Roman rule. Despite witnessing incredible miracles, they misunderstood God’s plan and became devastated when Jesus was crucified.
He emphasizes that disappointment with God is always rooted in not understanding His ways and can severely damage one’s spiritual life. Using examples of the apostle Paul’s imprisonment and Peter’s denial, he shows how disappointments can start small but grow to devastating proportions if not addressed. The key to overcoming disappointment is trusting God even when we don’t understand His plans, following Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding.
